South Korean Actor Lee Seung-gi Cuts Ties with In-Laws Amid Legal Turmoil

South Korean actor Lee Seung-gi has announced his decision to sever ties with his in-laws.

On the 29th, Lee Seung-gi released an official statement expressing his regret over the situation. He stated, "I am deeply sorry to convey this message with a heavy heart. Despite the previous sentencing of a fine in the appellate court for the ongoing legal issues concerning my father-in-law, he has recently been indicted again for similar illegal activities. As someone who has been waiting for the outcome based on family trust, I am devastated by my father-in-law's misconduct."

Lee continued, "I deeply regret my hasty remarks last year without thoroughly examining the issues related to my father-in-law. I believe that appropriate punishment should be meted out for illegal activities, and I sincerely apologize to the victims who suffered due to my rash judgment. I am also filled with remorse towards everyone who trusted and understood me."

He further announced, "This incident has irreparably damaged the trust within our family, and after much deliberation, my wife and I have decided to cut ties with my in-laws."

Lee concluded, "I will strive to uphold better values and live responsibly for a healthier society. I apologize once again for causing concern and disappointment due to personal matters."

Last year, Lee's father-in-law, Mr. Lee, was indicted for manipulating stock prices through false disclosures. The Supreme Court overturned the acquittal from the second trial, finding him guilty of violating the Capital Markets Act by falsely disclosing the source of funds for a capital increase. Initially, Mr. Lee was sentenced to four years in prison and fined 2.5 billion won in the first trial, but was acquitted in the second trial before the Supreme Court's decision.

Lee Seung-gi married actress Kyeon Mi-ri's daughter, Lee Da-in, in April 2023. The couple welcomed a daughter in February last year. Kyeon Mi-ri's side has previously stated through legal representatives that they are not involved in the stock manipulation case and will take legal action against false information.
