NCT WISH Faces Backlash for Lackluster Performance on Variety Show

On November 2nd, NCT WISH appeared on SBS PowerFM's 'Cultwo Show' alongside singer Chuu. The controversy arose during the 'Kkongnyang Challenge' segment. While Chuu demonstrated the challenge, only member Riku participated actively, leaving the rest of the group standing awkwardly. Special DJ Hanhae remarked, "WISH just froze. Riku tried hard but it fell apart."
Following the broadcast, criticism spread across platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube. One viewer commented, "Even senior artists are giving their best, what are they doing? Shyness is no excuse in a professional setting." Another added, "They've only debuted a few months ago, yet they lack the initial enthusiasm. Will this be a lifelong attitude?"
Even within the NCT WISH fandom, dissatisfaction emerged. A self-proclaimed fan wrote, "It's not about being unable to speak; it's about social skills and responsibility." Another fan pleaded, "We criticize because we still care. Please understand and improve. We don't want to stop supporting you."

Some K-pop fans sarcastically refer to idols with indifferent expressions as having 'frozen fish eyes,' a term expressing disappointment towards idols who lose their initial passion. NCT WISH, having debuted just 14 months ago, is still a rookie group. In the industry, it's believed that a solid fanbase forms around the 3rd to 4th year of debut. If they continue to show indifference, new fans might quickly lose interest. As some netizens pointed out, "Being shy is different from being indifferent," and NCT WISH could benefit from emulating their seniors' enthusiasm.
