‘Slam Dunk’ exceeds 2 million, enters 2nd place
While 'The First Slam Dunk' is showing off its potential by successfully exceeding 2 million, Korean movies are struggling.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network on the 2nd, 'The First Slam Dunk' (directed by Takehiko Inoue) took first place in the box office, mobilizing 41,672 viewers on the 1st. The cumulative number of viewers for ‘The First Slam Dunk’ was 2,036,484.

'The First Slam Dunk' is a movie depicting the dreams, passion, and unstoppable challenges of the five members of the Buksan High School basketball team who dream of winning the national championship. It is based on the cartoon 'Slam Dunk'. An attempt was made to expand the story in that Song Tae-seop, not Kang Baek-ho, was the main character. 'The First Slam Dunk', which succeeded in stimulating the nostalgia of male audiences in their 30s and 40s, is spreading word of mouth, and people of all generations are coming to theaters to see 'The First Slam Dunk'.

In second place, 'BTS: Old To Come in Cinema', which contains a live performance of the group BTS, was the first to enter. On the 1st, ARMYs were often seen taking proof shots in front of the poster at the theater. This film attracted 20,580 viewers on the first day of release.

‘Negotiation’ (Director Lim Soon-rye) was pushed back to third place. 20,015 people watched the movie. Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie's film 'Babylon' (directed by Damien Chazelle) ranked 4th, and was viewed by 18,056 people.

In fifth place was 'Avatar: Path of Water' (director James Cameron, 'Avatar 2'), which surpassed 10 million viewers and attracted 17,513 people.

'The First Slam Dunk', 'Babylon', and 'Avatar 2' are in the top 5 at the box office, and Korean movies that were highly anticipated are not showing any signs of exertion. The movie 'Ghost' (directed by Lee Hae-young), which was released on the same day as 'Negotiation', ranked 9th, with about 5,000 viewers that day, and a cumulative audience of about 560,000.
