"It's ferocious and spleen"... Behind the scenes of Sungkyu Kim's Joyful, Cheerful album
Kim Sung-kyu returned on the 28th with the release of his fifth mini-album '2023 S/S Collection'.
'2023 SS Collection' is an album filled with Kim Sung-kyu's more solid music color and refreshing voice. Kim Sung-gyu captured his own colorful summer mood with various musical attempts.
The title song 'Small Talk' is a song that stands out with an addictive rhythm and melody that catches your ears, and a cheerful band sound. The musical message of Kim Seong-gyu, who tries to ice-break toward the world, and the sensuous lyrics that can be interpreted in various ways depending on the listener's situation are attractive.
Kim Seong-kyu introduced the new album '2023 SS Collection' through Q&A.
Q. How do you feel about coming back with the new album '2023 SS Collection'?
A. I worried a lot about what kind of image I should show. I've done a lot of things over the past 13 years, so this is an album I prepared step by step while thinking countless times about what new things to try this time. We will show you a different charm suitable for summer.
Q. Please introduce the title song 'Small Talk'.
A. 'Small Talk' is a very exciting song in one word. It's upbeat and rhythmic, and the groovy feel is also good. The lyrics 'I need to talk to you' may be the feeling someone feels when starting an affair, or it may be the feeling of being alone in a crowd. These days, people-to-person conversations have decreased, and I put my heart that I don't like being alone.
Q. The cute point choreography of the killing part is also a hot topic. How did you come to prepare it?
A. Originally, there was no choreography plan, but I prepared it because I thought it would be nice to have a movement that would be a point during the music video shoot. I was embarrassed and worried a lot, but I'm glad the fans liked it.
Q. You showed a delightful performance in the 'Small Talk' music video. Is there any memorable episode during filming?
A. The first shot was a close-up lip-syncing scene, and when I put on my face, the director shouted, "Are you here to shoot a musical?" He said, "I feel like I have to go save the country because I'm so ferocious and spleen. I hope I have a nerdy feeling."
Q. Following the previous work, you directly participated in writing the lyrics for the b-side song 'Jump'. What kind of story did it contain?
A. The title sounds lively, but the song has a calm atmosphere. I wrote the lyrics while thinking about the feelings I felt while taking a break from Infinite activities and the feelings of the fans waiting for Infinite.
Q. Excluding the title song, which b-side song do you like the most and why?
A. All of them are songs that I have a strong attachment to, but if I had to choose my favorite song, it would be 'It Will Be'. It would be nice to listen to this song lying on the lawn under a clear sky when there is no fine dust. There are various moments in life, including difficult moments, but it is a song that contains the heart of comfort that it will be okay in the end.
Q. Is there a goal you want to achieve through this album?
A. I am not a person who is very obsessed with goals. Rather than a grandiose goal, I hope that I can approach my fans and everyone who has been interested in and waiting for my album as a good consolation or gift.
